Review of LG Viewty Silver

Mobile phones with sophisticated imaging options have become the latest craze among tech-savvy phone users. There are many people who want their mobile handsets to be powerful enough to double up as digital cameras, as and when they want them to. And this increasing demand for camera mobiles has not gone unnoticed; leading handset manufacturers in different regions of the globe have taken a note of this fact and are doing all that it takes to satisfy the same.
LG Electronics, for one, has been involved in the design and development of some very stylish camera mobiles. The LG Viewty Silver is one of the more popular LG mobile phones from this category. This smartphone from LG is also a stunner in the way it is designed. The handset comes with a silver casing and hence the name. A large touchscreen adds that element of novelty to the high-end LG mobile. The fact that the handset is easy to use also goes in its favour.
A sophisticated 5 megapixel digital camera phone is integrated in the handset. The in-built camera is supported with additional features such as xenon flash and auto focus. This ensures a high quality in the images captured. Thecolours are live and vivid; moreover, the clarity of the images make them comparable to those captured using a standalone digital camera. The in-built imaging capabilities of the LG Viewty silver can also be used for recording video clips at 120 frames per second - a feat that is quite amazing in itself.
Another interesting and very popular feature of this mobile phone is its capability to make video calls. There is a secondary VGA camera in the handset that can be used for this very purpose. The joy of seeing the expression on the face of people while talking to them can be rather overwhelming. An integrated MP3 player, FM radio options, and web browsing capabilities are some of the other key features of this LG mobile.

Le Renoir – LG’s entry into the 8 Megapixel arms race

The KC910, more commonly known as the Renoir, is LG’s heavyweight entry into the 8 Megapixel cameraphone smackdown, and looks set to be a serious contender for the top spot ‘neath the old Christmas tree this year.
The Renoir follows in the wake of the Viewty, one of LG’s most successful touchscreen ventures so far, and as such bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor in terms of both functionality and appearance. The Renoir rolls with the same look as the Viewty, with the front of the phone being dominated by a large 3″-plus touch sensitive display, and the rear taking on the appearance of a high-end digital camera.
As we know, the Renoir matches both the Sony Ericsson C905 and the Samsung Pixon in terms of Megapixel count, and like the Pixon, it also comes with a large touchscreen UI. We reckon that the Renoir has the edge over the rest when it comes to imaging – as well as a powerful camera, it comes with a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, Xenon flash and autofocus, as well as the ability to adjust the focus manually should you wish. Blink detection and face tracking also come included, making quality picture taking on the Renoir an effortless affair.
According to the stats we’ve seen, the camera is also capable of recording video at 30fps at VGA resolution and at up to four times that in QVGA 120fps; the TV-Out functionality allows you to view your recordings on a TV screen at near-DVD quality; yet another throwback to the good old Viewty.

Nokia N Series vs Samsung G Series

he Nokia N series vs Samsung G series is quite a sensation to me at least. Both are very good; and advanced. Latest Nokia Nseries Mobile Phones

Latest Nokia Nseries Mobile Phones

The Samsung G series has just been released. Looking up on the web I found that this series has one phone called the Samsung G800. This handset is quite unique with a 5 mega pixels camera which uses auto focus, 3x optical zoom and also has the technology of bluetooth. The phones in this series have all the standard features like QVGA display, microSD memory card as well. The G800 is funny and nice. From the front it looks like a LG chocolate while from the back it looks like a Sony Ericsson camera phone. Given that the cost for buying this phone is right, I think that this handset is sure to be a hit. Hence the question: Nokia N series vs Samsung G series has a fine answer for the Samsung part.

Latest Samsung Mobile Phones

Latest Samsung Mobile Phones

The Nokia N series is also quite a revelation. For instance the Nokia N 70 has a 2 mega pixels camera with 20 x digital zoom and a secondary VGA camera with 2 x Zoom. There is also a real media player and then there is the 3G technology and the bluetooth technology. Thus this series is also good.

Nokia N95 ‘Multimedia Computer’ Now Available

When it was first revealed to the world in September 2006 the Nokia N95 seemed destined to be one of the most powerful handsets around, so now that it’s been released and is widely available, we thought we’d see if it has lived up to the hype.

Nokia N95 multimedia computer

Sporting a 5 megapixel ‘Carl Zeiss’-blessed digital camera, integrated GPS and WiFi, HSDPA data access (think mobile broadband… up to 3.6 Mbit currently possible, over 6 times as fast as most broadband users get) and an innovative ‘dual slider’ action, it’s hard to fault the features. When even Sony Ericsson’s Cybershot-branded handsets can only muster 3.2 megapixels, you start to realise just how ahead of the curve this device is. Take a look at this feature list:

  • 5 Megapixel (2592 x 1944) digital camera
  • Camera has Flickr support, Carl Zeiss Optics, autofocus & digital zoom
  • Video recording at 640 x 480, 30 frames per second - near DVD quality
  • Hi-speed ‘G’ WiFi
  • HSDPA (3.5G)
  • Quad band
  • 2.6-inch QVGA (320×240) 16 million colour screen
  • 160MB of internal memory
  • microSD (aka TransFlash) memory card slot supporting up to 8Gb cards
  • Music Player supporting all popular formats, including eAACS, MP3 and wma.
  • Stereo speakers built-in, and stereo A2DP Bluetooth
  • Stereo FM Radio
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • USB 2.0 via mini USB port
  • Fully hardware accelerated 3D graphics

It’s the little things that can make or break a device like this, so it is good to see that things like a normal headphone jack, a standard mini-USB port and a good FM radio aren’t left out.

Running Nokia’s take on Symbian, Series60, this really is more of a computer than merely a smartphone. With a massive range of software available from all over the web you can have this connecting to all your popular Instant Messaging accounts, running TomTom or even managing your expenses or workout regime in no time.

The slide form factor has seen a lot of new uses recently, but many people might forget that it was Nokia who actually introduced this with their “banana phone”, the NK-501. You might know it better as the original Matrix phone (although the spring loaded opening was just a special effect, unfortunately - the later 7110 did have this, though). So it’s hardly surprising that Nokia have innovated again with the dual-slider action: Slide the screen one way to reveal a very well engineered keypad, as you’d expect. Slide it the other way, and there’s merely 4 multimedia control keys, play/pause, forward, backward and stop.

What really blew us away though is the size of the phone (’multimedia computer’! - Ed). Much thinner than the Nokia N80, it comfortably emulates the dimensions of a ‘normal’ mobile phone without compromising on screen real estate or useable keys.

Logic Bolt - The World’s First Projector Phone

Logic Bolt, the world’s first projector phone, created by US-based Logic Wireless, has made its debut at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show this month in Las Vegas.
Whilst traditional cell phones provide an amazing amount of information, which users are forced to view on tiny palm-sized screens that make sharing that information difficult, the new cell phone increases screen size by 3000% or more through a built-in projector that casts razor-sharp images onto a wall or screen. It’s like carrying a big screen TV in your pocket.Bolt features Office, PowerPoint, Excel and Word, the manufacturing company recommending it as “a must-have business tool”.Logic Wireless phones are compatible with GSM carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T . In the future, the company will expand its GSM Carrier network. Scheduled for release next month at a pre-contract price between $400 and $600 (or $100 with 2 years Carrier Contract) the Logic Bolt is a GSM handset with a 320×240 touchscreen, 3MP camera, 4GB storage and MicroSD expansion. It also features Bluetooth, Internet and connects with Laptop USB, TV, XBox, Wii. Using a bundled adapter, the phone can accept VGA and RCA inputs, passing the signal on for built-in 640×480 projections. The battery can only last 2 hours in projection mode, so a second battery comes bundled with the phone.

Logic Wireless LLC is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative, wireless Projector Phone solutions for the global community. The company is based in Tucson, Arizona and was founded by Aasim Saied and his partners Anna Deng and Miran Maric. Logic’s manufacturing partner is located in Shenzhen, China. Best of all, Logic Wireless won’t stop by just creating this cell phone with tiny projector squeezed inside. Manufacturer Logic Wireless hopes to release a CDMA+ GSM Quad Band / Windows Mobile Software version of the phone in the next four months with Live Video Conferencing while projecting, larger touch screen with slide keyboard and 4 Times Brighter Projection with Brightness Adjustment. Besides, they’re planning a 2.0 version of the product with QWERTY and possibly Android by the end of 2009.

Apple sells one millionth iPhone

Over the last few days we’ve had rumours that O2 are upgrading their network to EDGE, which is the high speed connectivity that the iPhone uses. Which would maybe discount a 3G iPhone for the UK, especially as 3G on O2 is the worst available on the major networks.
However, another rumour showed an iPhone advert from T-Mobile in Germany advertising an iPhone with HSDPA. A 3G iPhone for Europe but not for the UK?
And now Apple have released a press release that says they have sold their one millionth iPhone, just 74 days since its release.
“One million iPhones in 74 days – it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with the iPod”
said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
Apple like to describe their iPhone as a mobile phone, widescreen iPod and the best mobile internet device ever…. It remains to be seen if it can back up this boast in the more mature European market

microUSB in mobiles for charging, data and other tasks

Not so long ago, Chinese government made a statement (source: People's Daily Online) about single national standard on mobile phone chargers sold in the country. They wanted to avoid waste and to lower costs: "Under the new standard, all mobile phones, regardless of the brand, will be able to share one charger with a USB access, allowing users to charge handsets through laptops. (...) China has almost 450 million cell phone subscribers, with up to 100 million replacing their phones every year. The chargers are often disposed of with the phones.".Although no deadline had been set to allow charger makers to adjust their production, they responded quickly - Nokia did it as well (it's worth to note that China is the first largest market for Nokia in terms of sales, India being the second). At the time of writing, five S40 devices have microUSB port (models: 8600 luna, 6500 classic/slide, 7900 prism, 6555). Some of these devices use microUSB for all connection types (one port for charging, data connection and audio), some have 2.0mm charger connector, 2.5mm audio and microUSB for data. It seems that Pop Port is not needed anymore. One big question is when microUSB with charging capability will come to S60 - will it be S60 3rd FP2 or later? The answer will come soon. Till then owners of devices with 2.0mm connector can use a special charger via USB (Nokia USB Charger CA-100).
I also have an idea - it would be interesting to use (micro)USB port in smartphones like we use in PC's. Just imagine connecting 'normal' PC's keyboard, mouse or additional flash memory to your smartphone through USB (is it a matter of proper device driver written for Symbian?)... one step in this direction is audio (which works directly through microUSB + headset HS-82 or AD-55 adapter).

Nokia N95 ‘Multimedia Computer’ Now Available

When it was first revealed to the world in September 2006 the Nokia N95 seemed destined to be one of the most powerful handsets around, so now that it’s been released and is widely available, we thought we’d see if it has lived up to the hype.Nokia N95 multimedia computerSporting a 5 megapixel ‘Carl Zeiss’-blessed digital camera, integrated GPS and WiFi, HSDPA data access (think mobile broadband… up to 3.6 Mbit currently possible, over 6 times as fast as most broadband users get) and an innovative ‘dual slider’ action, it’s hard to fault the features. When even Sony Ericsson’s Cybershot-branded handsets can only muster 3.2 megapixels, you start to realise just how ahead of the curve this device is. Take a look at this feature list:* 5 Megapixel (2592 x 1944) digital camera* Camera has Flickr support, Carl Zeiss Optics, autofocus & digital zoom* Video recording at 640 x 480, 30 frames per second - near DVD quality* Hi-speed ‘G’ WiFi* HSDPA (3.5G)* Quad band* 2.6-inch QVGA (320×240) 16 million colour screen* 160MB of internal memory* microSD (aka TransFlash) memory card slot supporting up to 8Gb cards* Music Player supporting all popular formats, including eAACS, MP3 and wma.* Stereo speakers built-in, and stereo A2DP Bluetooth* Stereo FM Radio* 3.5 mm audio jack* USB 2.0 via mini USB port* Fully hardware accelerated 3D graphicsIt’s the little things that can make or break a device like this, so it is good to see that things like a normal headphone jack, a standard mini-USB port and a good FM radio aren’t left out.

Blue Earth: Samsung's Solar Phone Made from Water Bottles

Barcelona -- Amid the megapixels madness of its camera-phone announcements, Samsung has shown us another vision of the future -- the Blue Earth. The phone is an environmental champion, made from recycled water bottles and powered by a solar panel on the back. And that's about all we know. Like the Mona Lisa, the only handset at the Mobile World Congress show is behind glass (which is why we've used the official product shot), and Samsung is being not exactly cagey but a little thrifty with the details. We do know that the phone will have a touch screen and also a distinctly gimmicky pedometer, which measures how far you have walked and then tells you how much CO2 you haved saved by not driving. This is just annoying, and exactly the sort of thing smug Prius owners would like. It reminds me of the kind of vegan who eats wholemeal pasta -- a form of self flagellation designed only to telegraph their pious intentions to us less morally aware mortals.Still, the intention is good, and the phone has another few eco-tricks up its recycled sleeves. There is an energy saving mode which will lower the backlight levels and switch off Bluetooth -- useful when charging via the Sun. That solar panel is also claimed to provide enough juice to keep the phone going indefinitely. For those of us who live in less clear-skied climes (I'm looking at you, Britain) it looks like Samsung will provide a separate charger. Low-powered, of course.Best of all, it will be a real phone, available in real shops in the second half of this year.
